The Quezon City government is planning to acquire a new ladder fire truck to boost the city’s firefighting capability.
City administrator Aldrin Cuña said there is a need for the BFP in Quezon City to have the capability to fight fires and conduct rescue operations in high-rise buildings.
The city government is studying if the procurement can be funded the city’s DRRM fund. The Rosenbauer ladder fire truck has an estimated amount of P50 million.
The Quezon City Fire Station has one ladder truck that is capable of reach a nine-story building. The P52 million Pierce Dash 100 aerial ladder truck was acquired by the city government in 2008.
The Bureau of Fire Protection has exclusively used Quezon City’s Pierce ladder truck in its promotion campaigns. It served as the BFP’s most modern fire truck until the arrival in 2015 of several Rosenbauer fire trucks from Austria.
The city government which owns the fire truck bankrolls the repairs and maintenance of the Pierce Dash 100 aerial platform ladder truck which costs of about P2.7 million.
“Masakit sa bulsa i-maintain, but nonetheless we maintain it,” Cuña said.#
