May angal? MMFF 2016 entries ‘deserving’, says Castelo
The list of movies included in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) created controversy when it came out, but Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo certainly has no issues with it.
“My congratulations go to the selection committee of the [MMFF] who were responsible for choosing deserving films for this year’s festival. The same is accorded to those all behind the production of the quality films to be enjoyed by our countrymen next week,” Castelo said in a statement Tuesday, December 20.
The eight movies that earned a spot in the yearly festival will begin showing on Christmas Day, December 25, as per tradition.
These movies are Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2, Kabisera, Vince & Kath & James, Die Beautiful, Saving Sally, Oro, Seklusyon, and Sunday Beauty Queen.
“I now call on every Filipino family to celebrate Christmas more meaningfully by watching MIFF movies. Go out and spend time together to witness films that are uniquely Pinoy and yet of truly global standards,” said Castelo, who chairs the House Committee on Metro Manila Development (MMD).
Conspicuously missing in the list of MMFF 2016 entries are films by box-office draws Vic Sotto and Vice Ganda. In fact, their exclusion from the list made news.
The eight movies were trimmed from an original list of 27 films.
