WTF?! Sonny Belmonte’s grandkid rants against Mocha Uson’s entry as Star columnist
The granddaughter of former Speaker and incumbent Quezon City Rep. Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. is aghast that sexy performer Mocha Uson will start writing a column for the Philippine Star, which her family controlled for close to three decades.
In a series of tweets posted Sunday (Nov. 6), Regina Belmonte expressed disbelief over Uson’s impending appearance at the Star’s opinion section. The sexy performer, a known supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, will have a column named “Hotspot” which will come out every Tuesday.
To show how much she abhors Uson, the 29-year-old former editor of the paper’s fashion and beauty section YStyle even posted a screenshot of the text she sent her father, Star publisher and Chief Executive Officer Miguel Belmonte.
Belmonte said having Uson join the ranks of Star’s columnists is a disgrace to the memory of her late grandmother, Betty Go-Belmonte, who founded the newspaper in 1986.
While acknowledging that the family only has a minority share in the paper after businessman Manny Pangilinan’s MediaQuest Holdings acquired the majority stake in 2014, Belmonte said she cannot help but be affected by the developments in the Star.
