A Quezon City Council committee has endorsed for confirmation the appointment of five key city government department heads.
The City Council’s Committee on Laws and Internal Government chaired by Councilor Franz Pumaren approved the passage of a proposed resolution confirming the co-terminus appointments of City Administrator Aldrin Cuña, city legal officer Christian Valencia, secretary to the mayor Tadeo Palma, retired police general Elmo Santiago as chief of the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety and city information officer Ares Gutierrez.
The proposed measure confirming the appointment was authored by Councilor Godofredo Liban II.
The City Council will calendar the measure for third and final reading where it will formally be approved and passed.
All five officials will serve until the end of the term of Mayor Herbert M. Bautista, who is on his third and last term.
Gutierrez is the only new appointee among the five officials.
Prior to his appointment as city information officer and chief of the Quezon City Public Affairs and Information Services Office last July 1, Gutierrez was reporter, correspondent and editor in various local and international media organizations such as GMA News Online, The Manila Times, Inquirer Publishing (Cebu Daily News), Gulf News, Al Nisr Media, Xpress Weekly, Journal Group of Publications, Malaya and the defunct Manila Chronicle.
He was also Bautista’s chief of staff when he first won as the city’s vice mayor in 1995.
