Magkasangga! Cops, soldiers join forces on checkpoints vs terrorists in Metro Manila
Some 155 soldiers joined police personnel in manning checkpoints in Metro Manila to prevent terrorist groups from staging bombing runs and sneaking explosives and firearms into the metropolis.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, Chief Superintendent Oscar Albayalde said the soldiers are part of the augmentation forces of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ National Capital Region command to conduct police visibility in Metro Manila.
The move was carried out in the aftermath of last Friday’s bomb attack in Davao that left 14 people dead and dozens wounded.
“They would join the NCRPO personnel in conducting checkpoint operations as we intensify our effort to make Metro Manila safe and orderly,” Albayalde told the Star.
Albayalde said they have raised its checkpoint operations to the highest level since President Duterte declared a state of national emergency on account of lawless violence.
He said checkpoints should be in a well-lighted area and led by a police officer. All those manning checkpoints should be in complete uniform, with their nameplates visible.
Albayalde also directed police and military personnel manning checkpoints to be courteous in dealing with motorists
