Marikina offers cemetery, playground as parking spaces for cars amid Ompong threat
The local government of Marikina City has offered a number of public places as alternative parking spaces for cars in preparation for the flooding that Typhoon Ompong may bring.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the Marikina City Rescue 161 said motorists may park their cars at the central parking of the city hall, the Loyola Cemetery, Liwasang Kalayaan in Marikina Heights and Parang playground.
“Ang mga nasabing lugar paradahan ay nasa mas mataas na lugar at mas maliit ang tsansang abutin ng pagbaha,” the Marikina City Rescue 161 said.
Storm signal number 1 has been raised over Manila due to Typhoon Ompong.
The typhoon packs maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph.
Ompong is forecast to make landfall in the Cagayan-Isabela area early Saturday.
