Taguig readies food packs, hygiene kits at evacuation centers ahead of Ompong’s onslaught
The city government of Taguig has prepositioned 1,000 food packs at evacuation centers for residents who may need to flee their homes due to Typhoon Ompong.
Nikki Rose Operario, officer-in-charge of the City Social Welfare Development Office, said they are preparing an additional 1,000 food packs should there be a need to distribute more.
“Each food pack usually contains rice, canned goods and noodles,” she said.
Aside from the food packs, evacuees will receive blankets, water, energy biscuits and hygiene kits. Each hygiene kit contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and a small towel.
“We are more than ready,” Operario said.
State weather bureau PAGASA said Typhoon Ompong will enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring light to moderate rains to Metro Manila starting Friday.
Aside from prepositioning food and hygiene kits at evacuation centers, the local government of Taguig has also prepared rubber boats and other rescue equipment to quickly respond to any emergency that will arise as a result of the typhoon.
