Bistek, Erap suspend work, classes due to Ompong
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada have suspended classes and work in government offices on Friday in anticipation of the rains that will be brought by Typhoon Ompong.
Both Bautista and Estrada suspended classes at all levels for the students’ safety.
In a memorandum released Thursday, Quezon City Administrator Aldrin Cuna said official transactions of the government will be suspended on Friday.
However, all operating units of the city Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) are placed on heightened alert, with instructions to deploy personnel and assets immediately when necessary.
“The DRRMO is directed to devise a rationalized manning scheme for the entire operational period in preparation for any untoward incidents,” the memorandum read.
Barangay officials in low lying areas, meanwhile, are advised to remain vigilant and initiate preemptive evacuation of vulnerable residents.
As for Manila, Estrada said offices involved in emergency preparedness such as the CDRMMO, departments of health and social welfare, will still have work on Friday.
