Shipped from Malaysia: P4.3B worth of shabu found in Manila port
An estimated 500 kilograms of shabu worth P4.3 billion was discovered by authorities Tuesday at the Manila International Container Port (MICP).
The shabu, which was concealed inside two magnetic lifters, was found by operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Bureau of Customs.
PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said the shabu was shipped from Malaysia.
“We can suspect that Malaysia was used only as a transhipment point. However, the country of origin of the illegal drug is yet to be determined,” he said.
Last month, the PDEA’s regional office in Metro Manila and the Philippine National Police Civil Security Group received a tip that a shipment of illegal drugs will be smuggled from Malaysia into the country.
Aquino said the shipment was consigned to Vecaba Trading under the name of Vedasto Cabral Baraquel of Barangay Lalud, Calapan, Mindoro City.
“Their identities are currently the subject of investigation,” he said.
