MMDA defers implementation of provincial bus ban on EDSA
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has deferred the implementation of the ban on provincial buses along EDSA despite getting the nod of the Metro Manila Council (MMC).
MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said the agency still needs to fix a few things before proceeding with the ban.
Provincial buses are supposed to be banned along EDSA starting August 15.
“Mayor Rex Gatchalian gave his 100 percent support. However, we have to fix some facilities and other infrastructure at the Valenzuela Interim Terminal. We are not in a hurry to implement the policy as we want to make sure everything is in order,” Garcia said after the MMC’s meeting on Tuesday.
Under the MMDA’s plan, select provincial buses coming from the north shall end their trip at the Valenzuela Interim Terminal while those coming from the south shall use the South Interim Provincial Terminal.
Garcia said the MMDA expects a faster turn-around of provincial buses once the regulation is enforced.
