Alejano bares wish list for Duterte’s SONA: Protect Filipinos, stand up to China
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano laid down his so-called “wish-list” for President Rodrigo Duterte for his upcoming third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday (July 23).
In a statement, Alejano said he hopes that Duterte will start acting “as the leader of the nation” and rally the Filipino people behind him rather dividing the country through his infamous cursing rhetoric.
“(I hope) he starts setting a good example especially to the youth by promoting our values as a people rather than eroding them,” said Alejano.
Alejano stressed that Duterte must start showing to the people that he is “father of this nation – caring for the Filipino people rather than pursuing a policy of killings and oppressing the poor.”
The former rebel soldier also hopes that the commander-in-chief will start upholding “the sovereignty and integrity of our country rather than being subservient to the dictates of imperialist China.”
The party-list solon also wished that Duterte will start building the nation’s image “before the international community rather than destroying it through his frequent tirades” against other countries and their leaders.
“Ang mga bagay na ito ay hindi na dapat hinihiling pa kundi kusang isinasabuhay ng isang Pangulo – pinakamataas na lider ng bansa… the people should constantly demand the best from our leaders whom we installed into power,” said Alejano.
