Atienza to run for Manila mayor again if…
Buhay party-list Rep. Lito Atienza may throw his hat into the mayoral ring in the 2019 elections.
Atienza on Thursday announced his plan to fight for the mayoral seat again if he will not see any significant changes in the country’s capital during the term of incumbent Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada.
Atienza served as mayor of Manila for three terms from 1998 to 2007.
After his third term, he was appointed as environment secretary under the term of then-President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
He tried to seek reelection in 2010 but lost to former Interior Secretary and senator Alfredo Lim.
In 2013, Lim lost the mayoral post to Estrada, while Atienza secured a congressional seat in the House of Representative representing Buhay party-list.
Estrada and Lim earlier revealed plans to run in next year’s elections.
