Nawili na! Kadamay takes over another gov’t housing project
Several members of urban poor group Kadamay on Wednesday took over another idle housing project for police and military this time in San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal.
According to TV reports, group that identified themselves as part of Kadamay forced their way into the 1A area of the housing project.
They first attempted to enter the area three months ago but failed because they were stopped by residents of Rodriguez area who were former and active members of the military and police.
They were able to enter the area on Wednesday because it was unoccupied.
Kadamay’s move came after the group threatened to take over other unoccupied government housing units in the country.
In a statement, Kadamay said the Montalban Homeless Alliance (MHA), whose local chapter is a member of Kadamay, staged the action dubbed “Bantayang Bahay Para sa Karapatan at Katiyakan sa Paninirahan” in the La Solidaridad-Avilon Zoo area.
The area, it said, has been idle for more than five years.
Around 700 members entered the area, among them homeless scavengers from the nearby landfill, Kadamay said.
Last year, Kadamay also forcibly occupied some 6,000 units in a resettlement area in Pandi, Bulacan, intended for policemen, soldiers, firemen and jail personnel.
