Sanggang dikit: QC to renew sisterhood pact with Davao
The partnership between Quezon City and Davao City is expected to become deeper and closer in the coming years.
This after Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte revealed efforts of her city to renew sisterhood ties with the home province of President Duterte.
Belmonte said Councilor Gian Carlo Sotto recently filed a resolution which aims to expand the cooperative agreements of the two cities.
“I believe the re-establishment of our sister city partnership with Davao City will boost our promotion of socio-cultural, trade and economic development,” Belmonte said following her recent visit to Davao City.
The lady politiko said Quezon City would learn a lot from Davao City in terms of governance, disaster management, transportation, tourism, education and technology, among others.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing the sisterhood of the two cities was signed by former mayor Ismael Mathay and President Duterte when the latter was mayor of Davao in 1995.
Quezon City also has sister city agreements with other cities in countries such as Myanmar, China, the US, Taiwan, Canada and Japan.
“Mayor Sara Duterte will be in Quezon City next month to sign the new agreement with Mayor HB (Herbert Bautista),” Belmonte said.
