Walang atrasan: Gov’t urged to implement 2nd tranche of SSS pension hike by Jan. 2019
Progressive lawmakers on Thursday filed a joint resolution mandating the implementation of the second tranche of the Social Security System (SSS) pension increase effective January 1, 2019.
In House Joint Resolution No. 22, the seven-member bloc underscored the importance of implementing the second tranche of the SSS pension hike to ease the negative effects of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law and provide social protection to pensioners.
“Ngayon, hinahamon natin na ibigay na ito ng SSS at huwag silang umatras sa kanilang commitment na magbigay ng dagdag pension na isang libo,” said Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Carlos Zarate.
President Duterte, in February 2017, issued an executive order mandating the release of additional P2,000 pension in two tranches.
The first tranche of P1,000 would be given starting January 2017 and the second one in January 2019.
“Without appropriate and immediate intervention, the SSS will fail in its role to provide basic economic security for the people, curb poverty, provide economic stability, redistribute income, and preserve important social and individual values,” the resolution of Makabayan read.
“Delaying the release of the second tranche SSS pension increase will mean further suffering among many SSS pensioners,” it added.
