Echiverri faces graft case anew
Former Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri has been charged with graft over the alleged anomalous walkway and drainage project.
The Office of the Ombudsman filed the case before the Sandiganbayan after finding probable cause to indict him.
Apart from Echiverri, also named as his co-accused are former city budget officer Jesusa Garcia and city accountant Edna Centeno.
Under the case, Echiverri is accused of giving unwarranted benefit to EV and E Construction (EVEC) to do the project in Bagong Silang, Barangay 176 in 2011.
The Ombudsman pointed out EVEC got paid P1.7 million for the project even though there was no specific or itemized appropriation ordinance passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Caloocan for the project nor did it authorize Echiverri to enter into a deal with the contractor.
Meanwhile, the case has been raffled out to the Sandiganbayan 1st Division to handle it.
