First day of COC filing generally peaceful – PNP
The first day of the filing of certificates candidacy and the implementation of gun ban for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabatan elections was generally peaceful, a police official said Sunday.
Philippine National Police spokesman John Bulalacao said only three minor incidents were recorded on Saturday, which was the start of the election period for the May 14 local elections.
“Walang mabigat na pangyayari. Mayroong tatlong violations of the gun ban. Isa sa Cadiz City, may sa Bulacan, at yung nangyaring encounter sa Batangas kagabi, may inatake — yung isang na-apprehend,” Bulalacao said.
Aspiring village chief and youth candidates trooped to the Commission on Elections on the first day of the one-week period for the filing of COCs.
The poll office said it was expecting to receive as many as 3,000 applications per day until the filing period ends on April 20.
The official campaign period for the barangay and SK elections would start on May 4 and will end on May 12.
The election period, meanwhile, will end on May 21.
