Dapat laging handa: Bistek orders barangay officials to undergo quake response training
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista wants his constituents to be ready when the Big One strikes.
The politiko has ordered barangay officials to undergo basic training on earthquake landslide search and rescue operations to prepare them in case a disaster happens.
The focus of the project will be those areas lying the West Valley Fault and nearby communities.
He tasked the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to conduct the workshop involving 73 barangay officials who have completed 32 hours of basic training.
The training was designed to equip barangay officials in hazards and disaster management, particularly on collapsed structures search and rescue operations, and extricating and caring of victims.
The participants welcomed Bautista’s initiative saying that they will gain more knowledge on how to help their constituents once a powerful quake strikes.
“The earthquake landslide search and rescue orientation training program are a big help for us, especially that our barangay is one of the neighbors of barangays transacted by the West Valley Fault. For sure, we will be affected by ‘the big one’ or if not so, we can still help other affected barangays. All barangay officials of Quezon City, especially the barangay chairpersons must attend trainings like this,” Barangay Escopa I chairman Marvin Morales said.
Barangays lying along fault line are Bagong Silangan, Batasan Hills, Bagumbayan, Blue Ridge B, Libis, Old Balara, Pansol, Ugong Norte and White Plains.
