Sunog! Commercial building owned by Mike Velarde razed by fire

A huge fire gutted a commercial building owned by televangelist Mike Velarde in Parañaque City early Saturday morning.

Reports said the fire started around 1 a.m. at a grocery store inside the establishment located at Amvel City Compound in Barangay San Dionisio.

The fire reached fifth alarm and was declared out at 8:23 a.m.

There were no reported injuries in the fire which investigators said had caused P2 million worth of damage to property.

According to Velarde, the building is being rented by tenants running private offices, a canteen, a grocery store, a water refilling station, and electronics and accessories stores.

Velarde, founder of the religious group El Shaddai and partylist group Buhay, said that he was supposed to demolish and replace the building which was already 10 years old and use it for a call center company.

He quoted the damage on goods at P10 million while structural damage to at least P40 million.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of fire.
