Para walang aberya! Winnie Castelo wants special lane for OFWs
Quezon City Rep. Winston “Winnie” Castelo has thought of a brilliant idea to spare overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from so much hassle in renewing their passports.
Castelo, vice chair of the House Committee for OFWs, said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) must create a special lane for OFWs.
“Please don’t make passport renewal difficult for OFWs especially those who are in the country for a short vacation and who need to return soon to the countries where they are working,” he said.
The politiko made the appeal amid reports of clogging in the DFA online appointment system.
Many have complained of difficulty in securing an appointment saying that the earliest appointment date is already in March.
Castelo also urged the DFA to look into reports that some travel agencies are selling January appointment slots for as high as P4,000.
He said he would be asking the DFA to explain the matter and see if there would be a need for the House to investigate it.
While the DFA explained that OFWs do not need to make online appointment to renew their passport and can go directly to the DFA, Castelo said a special lane or a special link on the DFA website is still needed for faster processing of their passports.
