Palace hands off on comfort woman statue issue: Si Erap ang tanungin niyo!
Malacañang distanced itself from the issue on comfort woman statue erected along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the matter was not a diplomatic issue and President Duterte would not do anything about it.
“The statue [was] not erected by Malacañang. What are we supposed to do?” he said.
“It’s not something that the President will act on himself. We didn’t erect the statue so it’s not a presidential project,” he added.
He said any concern should be brought to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), which allowed
Tulay Foundation to built the statue, and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.
Estrada and NHCP Executive Director Ludovico Badoy attended the unveiling of the statue.
The erection of comfort woman statue allegedly angered the Japanese government but Roque was quick to dismiss that it would affect the good diplomatic relationship between the Philippines and Japan.
