Bayan hits ERC commissioners: ‘Walang sacred cows ‘no!’
The four commissioners of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) who were recently suspended by the Ombudsman should be held accountable.
This was according to Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate saying that they should not be treated as sacred cows.
Zarate criticized ERC chair Agnes Devanadera for saying that the one-year suspension of four commissioners -Gloria Victoria Yap-Taruc, Alfredo Non, Josefina Patricia Magpala-Asirit and Geronimo Sta. Ana – could paralyze the agency and lead to blackouts.
“The brownouts and the blackouts, if [the ERC officials are unable] to act on pending petitions, may happen not just in the provinces but also in Metro Manila,” Devanadera said in light of the suspension.
But Zarate is not buying Devanadera’s warning dismissing it as “vain attempt at blackmail”.
