Alejano: Is Paolo Duterte preempting Ombudsman with his resignation?
Magdalo partylist Rep. Gary Alejano is suspicious of the motive behind the surprise Christmas Day resignation of President Rodrigo Duterte’s son, Paolo Duterte, as vice mayor of Davao City.
Or, could Paolo Duterte be “preempting an Ombudsman decision on his corruption case?” Alejano said. The Ombudsman has reportedly opened a fact-finding investigation on the presidential son’s alleged involvement in the shabu shipment.
“Removing himself from public office will not make questions on his alleged links to the Davao group and the smuggled P6.4 billion shabu shipment go away,” he said in a statement.
“I respect the decision of Vice Mayor Polong to resign from his office due to the reasons he stated. It is his right to take certain action when he sees it fit especially concerning a personal issue with his daughter,” he said.
But the Magnificent 7 congressman said the circumstances behind the younger Duterte’s decision seemed suspicious.
“It will not erase the fact that the 604 kilogram shabu shipment issue has not been addressed yet and the brains behind have not been identified and arrested,” Alejano said. Paolo Duterte has been named as an alleged mastermind behind the shipment but has denied it.
Alejano added that, “It will not divert the fact that while the Duterte family claims that they are poor and simple, Isabelle showed the opposite through an ostentatious display of wealth and power.”
“It will not mitigate the suffering and death of the people of Davao and other places due to flooding and fire. The need all the support from all of us especially from the concerned agencies of government,” he said.
