Caloocan City second-district Rep. Edgar Erice reacted strongly against the deletion of infrastructure funds for 24 mostly opposition lawmakers in the 2018 budget, saying he would fight to the point of bloodshed.

“Can the Speaker and (House committee on appropriations) chairman Nograles delete budget already approved by the House, which the government through the national expenditure program has proposed?” the Magnificent 7 lawmaker said.

“I will fight to the last drop of my blood before the courts and on the streets if necessary to protect the 8 million Filipinos who will be benefitting from the projects,” Erice said.

Based on earlier news reports, the lawmakers who lost infrastructure funds for their districts or constituencies included members of the Magnificent 7 and the Makabayan bloc, as well as some Liberal Party members allied with the majority coalition.

Makabayan lawmakers, however, have denied ever tapping infrastructure funds.

Erice said power had gone to the Speaker’s head and that he was making “puppets” out of the lawmakers.

“I will tell the Filipino people that he chose to punish the people to make legislators his puppets, and just agree with his whims,” he said.

“I will tell them how power had gone to the head of the Speaker and I will tell the people that they should consider that Chairman Nograles deprive them of important projects and they should remember him in the 2019 elections,” Erice said.
