‘Di magandang biro! MMDA official under fire for cracking ‘bad joke’ vs media
Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Assistant General Manager Jojo Garcia seems to have a bad sense of humor.
Garcia drew heavy flak for cracking jokes against journalists saying that those who write negative reports about his office should become targets of the administration’s controversial Oplan Tokhang, which is marred with allegations of extrajudicial killings.
Garcia reportedly made the statement before holding a press conference at the MMDA office.
He did not name the reporters whom he was referring to but he allegedly even threatened to bring out his “.45 caliber” pistol to shoot them.
Presidential Task Force on Media Security head Undersecretary Joel Egco was informed about the incident saying that Garcia made a “horrible joke.”
“A reporter I have known for years brought this to my attention. Before I publicly call on the official and lecture him on [Administrative] Order No. 1, or ‘red flag’ him for such a horrible joke, I’d like to ask other reporters who were there to verify via PM (private message) to me. [M]y informant claimed they felt the chill,” he said in a post on Facebook.
He added that Garcia’s joke was “worse than a bomb joke.”
“Even President Duterte does not do that, Sir. Just do your job,” he said.
Try to be more sensitive next time, sir!
