Saan pa hahanap ng yaya: PH suspension of OFW applications alarms HK
The Philippine Department of Labor and Employment’s suspension of processing of applications for Filipinos working abroad has raised concerns in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong labor and welfare secretary Law Chi-kwong said this may affect Hong Kong families hoping to employ Filipino domestic helpers.
Radio-Television Hong Kong quoted Law as saying that while Hong Kong does not plan to negotiate the matter with Manila, it would “express its concern.”
Besides, he said there is no case in Hong Kong of the malpractice that led to the Philippine government’s move to suspend processing of applications.
The Philippine DOLE had announced the suspension of processing until Dec. 1, so it can look into reports of illegal recruitment victimizing overseas Filipino workers.
