Girl power! Police uses female cops to revive image
Eastern Police District will use the charm of female police officers to improve the image of police.
About 52 policewomen will be assigned to front desk duty in various police stations in areas of Marikina, Pasig, Mandaluyong and San Juan.
EDP director Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula said people will be more comfortable to air their complaints if they will be faced by policewomen who are “soft-spoken” and “more approachable.”
“I want to change the atmosphere in police stations. The traditional setup has men at police desks, but we want gender equality, equal opportunity for men and women,” Sapitula said.
The police force has drawn flak in recent months due to unexplained deaths committed under the administration’s war on drugs.
“We will not contribute to the prevailing bad image of the Philippine National Police. We are affected because we belong to one organization,” Sapitula said.
