Para sa kapayapaan! QC Mayor Bautista joins efforts to promote peace
The Quezon City (QC) government supports the country’s efforts to promote peace.
In a photo posted on its website Friday, QC Mayor Herbert Bautista posed alongside GRP Peace Panel Chairman Sec. Silvestre Bello III and other officials of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) for the annual “Ceremonial Ringing of the World Peace Bell”, which officially opened this year’s National Peace Consciousness Month.
With a theme “Puso para sa Kapayapaan, Magkaisa Para sa Bayan”, the Peace Month celebration kicked off at the World Peace Bell Monument located inside the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
The World Peace Bell was donated by the World Peace Bell Association (WPBA), an organization based in Japan which promotes world peace by donating peace bells in different countries. The bells represent the people’s call for world peace.
The first peace bell was rung on August 5, 1947, which marked the commemoration of Hiroshima Bombing, a tragedy that eventually led to the end of the Second World War.
The Philippines was the first Southeast Asian country which received a peace bell from WPBA.
In 1994, the World Peace Bell was turned over to former Vice Mayor Charito Planas and was inaugurated by former President Fidel V. Ramos on Human Rights Day on December 10, 1994.
