Alejano to Duterte: ‘Feel free to resign. Do not drag military, Congress in your drama’
Magdalo partylist Rep. Gary Alejano said President Rodrigo Duterte should just step down if he feels he can no longer discharge his duties.
“If Duterte feels that he cannot discharge his duties anymore as President of the country, then he should resign outright. Hindi na niya dapat dinadamay ang militar at Kongreso sa kanyang drama,” he said.
“Duterte said that his resignation will be subject to the concurrence of the military so that the succession provided by the Constitution will be followed. Further, he would ask Congress to vote jointly or separately on approving his resignation,” Alejano said.
“Wala sa ating Saligang Batas ang ganyan pang mga seremonyas. The Constitution is clear that upon the resignation of the President, he will be succeeded by the Vice President. Dapat ay hindi na rin idinadawit pa ang militar sa pulitika. If Duterte wants to resign, he is free to do so,” said Alejano, who tried and failed to impeach Duterte last March.
“Clearly, this is Duterte showing his acting chops once again. Siya na mismo ang nagsabi, bihasa siya sa pag-arte,” he said.
