Ties that bind: Ruffy Biazon, Delfin Lorenzana go way back

This politiko readily defended the military and security budget for his long-time friend and colleague.

Muntinlupa Congressman Ruffy Biazon readily vouched for the budget proposals of the Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Philippines before the House of Representatives.

Apart from believing in the country’s troops, Biazon made the gesture for his long-time ally and friend, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana. Their relationship dates back to a decade ago, when they lobbied before the United States Congress for the recognition of Filipino veterans during World War II in Washington, D.C.

Now, their tandem proved to be a success once more as the agency budgets were approved by the plenary. What a power duo!

We both had reasons to smile after the 6-hour deliberations on the budget of the Department of National Defense including the Armed Forces of the Philippines. I had the chance to work with Sec. Delfin Lorenzana almost 10 years ago when he was still the head of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office in Washington, DC. I was a member of the delegation from the House of Representatives which lobbied in the US Congress for the recognition of Filipino World War II Veterans in order to receive benefits from the US Government. We were successful in that initiative. Now we're working together again this time for the country's national defense, the AFP and all veterans. As Vice Chair of the Appropriations committee, I was tasked to sponsor the budget of the agency. Although the General Appropriations Bill has yet to be finally approved in its entirety, it can be said that the Department of National Defense has hurdled the budget process in the House of Representatives. And that's why we're both smiling.
