PAO chief Acosta given free hand in Kulot slay case
Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Acosta has been a free hand to determine what to do with the slay case of 14-year-old Reynaldo “Kulot” De Guzman.
This was assured by Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II considering that the PAO is an attached agency under the Department of Justice (DOJ).
“I am giving PAO a freehand to decide on the matter,” he said.
With the PAO already the legal counsel of the De Guzman family, Acosta said she intends to file double murder charges against the policemen who killed De Guzman’s friend, 19-year-old University of the Philippines (UP) student Carl Angelo Arnaiz who was killed during an alleged shootout in Caloocan City also on August 18.
The PAO chief said she won’t accept the findings of the Philippine National Police (PNP) that the body turned over to the family is not De Guzman.
Acosta stressed the DNA testing of De Guzman without the presence of PAO lawyers is illegal.
