Turning 100? Here’s a P100K cash gift

The government will be giving away a P100,000 one-time cash gift to 1,895 Filipinos who are turning 100 years old next year, Makati City second-district Rep. Luis Campos Jr. said on Sunday.

The give-away is pursuant to the Centenarians Law of 2016, or Republic Act No. 10868, which mandates that all Filipinos who reach the age of 100 years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, are entitled to a “Centenarian Gift” of P100,000, the congressman said.

P189.5 million has been earmarked in the 2018 budget for the cash gift.

“In recognition of their longevity, they will also receive a congratulatory letter from President Rodrigo Duterte,” Campos said.

The cash gift is on top of all other rewards centenarians may receive from their respective local governments.

Campos credited his colleague, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, and his son, former Albay Rep. Grex Lagman, for pushing hard for the passage of the Centenarians Law.
