Bill postponing barangay, SK elections passed on 2nd reading

The House of Representatives passed on second reading a bill seeking to postpone the 2017 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to May 2018.

“Confirmed. Approved last night. Might be read on 3rd reading on Monday. Then, bicam with Senate,” CIBAC partylist Rep. Sherwin Tugna told reporters.

Tugna is chair of the House committee on suffrage and electoral reforms.

The 17th Congress in 2016 approved a similar bill postponing the 2016 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to 2017, with the officials retaining a holdover position.

Elections are supposed to have been held on October 23 this year. The last barangay election was held in October 2013.
