Tinimbang ngunit kulang: Joy Belmonte can’t fathom CA decision on Taguiwalo
She had everything that it takes to do the job, but was still found lacking.
Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte simply could not fathom how the Commission on Appointments rejected Professor Judy Taguiwalo as Social Welfare secretary.
On Wednesday, Aug. 16, the joint Congressional body bypassed the University of the Philippines professor and PhD holder for the third time, effectively rendering her removed from the Cabinet post.
Belmonte could not understand the decision, saying that to reject Taguiwalo meant a loss for Filipinos, especially for the poor.
“Today is a very sad day, and I share the grief of all those who feel that we may have just lost our one great chance at truly uplifting the lives of our people from the cycle of poverty. It seems integrity, experience, intelligence and competence are not enough,” Belmonte said in airing her disappointment.
