Laging handa! QC quake drills getting fast and orderly
Constant drills and trainings on disaster and emergency management paid off after a strong earthquake struck Luzon, including Metro Manila on Friday afternoon.
“The evacuation from the Quezon City Hall buildings were fast and orderly. The employees and the visitors knew where to go and have gotten used to the procedures. This, we can attribute to the quarterly earthquake drills we hold here at the city hall,” said Karl Michael Marasigan, chief of the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
Marasigan said there were no reports of casualties or mass hysteria as schools and private establishments and office were also evacuated in an orderly manner.
“Sana ganito lang tayo palagi, maging parte ng buhay natin culture of preparedness. Gawin yung mga nakasanayan na natin. Our response teams are on full alert. There are some things that we can improve on,” Marasigan said.
The QC DRRMO was placed on full alert after Friday’s earthquake.
There were no reported casualties during the earthquake. All office buildings in the city hall compound were declared safe after members of the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment Team from the City Engineering Department conducted an inspection.
