Deadma lang ba? Alejano questions Duterte’s silence on P6.4-B shabu shipment
Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano is disturbed by President Rodrigo Duterte’s seeming indifference to the discovery that P6.4 billion worth of shabu managed to get past the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
In a statement Wednesday (August 8), Alejano wondered why Duterte has not spoken a word about the issue considering his threats against narco-politikos and drug pushers.
“Duterte has been suspiciously silent on an issue involving illegal drugs of this scale. Ang Pangulo ay pumapatay ng mga small-time drug addicts sa lansangan habang itong mga tone-toneladang droga ay nakakalusot,” he said.
Alejano said the shabu shipment should be a cause of concern since not only did it get past the country’s borders, but Chinese authorities also failed to intercept it. ”As the administration boasts the warming and closer relations of the Philippines and China, maybe the President could nudge his friends in China for their cooperation in this transnational problem on illegal drugs,” he said.
“It is not a new knowledge that China is one of the major sources of illegal drugs, as also declared by PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency),”the lawmaker added.
Aside from addressing the issue of corruption within the BOC, Alejano said it is high time the government takes steps to strengthen the country’s borders.
