SM Southmall shooting: Pasay city councilor killed 2 months after surviving first ambush
A Pasay City councilor was shot dead by unidentified assailants inside a mall in Las Pinas City Saturday evening.
Southern Police District (SPD) Director Chief Supt. Tomas Apolinario identified the victim as Borbie Rivera, 39, who was shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen outside Door 4 of SM Southmall at around 8:30 p.m.
Apolinario said Rivera was rushed to Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa City but was declared dead on arrival around 8:57 p.m. due to gunshot wounds in his head and body.
The councilor had survived an ambush in Pasay City last June.
He added the suspects fled towards unknown direction onboard motorcycle without a plate number.
Apolinario said they were investigating whether Rivera could be tied to the illicit drug trade based on police records.
Last April 2015 , Rivera, also a Barangay Chairman of Barangay 112 in Pasay, was arrested and listed as No. 1 in the SPD’s Top Ten Target Personalities.
He was released in April 2016 after the court junked the case. (Christopher Lloyd T. Caliwan/PNA)
