Erap offers therapy, trauma treatment for Marawi kid

The city government of Manila has started a therapy and trauma treatment program for more than 170 Marawi children who are now studying in the city.

Under the Healing After Trauma Services (HATS) program, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said Marawi children will be given therapy assistance to adjust to their new environment and cope with their harrowing experiences from the war-ravaged city.

“Ang mga Muslim, mahal ko sila. Tutulungan namin sila, they need help,” the Manila mayor told reporters in an interview.

“We should give more efforts in helping our Muslim brothers. Masyado silang naapi n’ung araw, e. It’s about time that we give them everything that we can afford to give,” he pointed out.

Project HATS is being conducted in close coordination with the Division of City Schools (DCS)-Manila led by Dr. Wilfredo Cabral at the Geronimo Santiago Elementary School in Quiapo. It started yesterday, July 13, until tomorrow, July 15.

Cabral said a total of 176 elementary and high school students from Marawi who have sought refuge in Manila with their families are the target beneficiaries of the program.

The displaced children have been enrolled at the Geronimo Santiago Elementary School and Ramon Avanceña High School in Quiapo and other nearby public schools, according to Cabral.
