Former basketball player Pumaren faces P20M tax raps
Quezon City Councilor and basketball coach Franz Pumaren has been slapped with a P20 million tax complaint by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
The BIR filed the tax raps before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against the former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player after his retailing company All Best Chovdale Development Inc. failed to pay around P20 million in 2009.
Pumaren, president of the company, has been issued notices by the BIR about the liability.
However, the BIR said Pumaren “failed to either pay or present relevant supporting documents to substantiate claim or protest said assessment, hence making the said assessment final, executory, and demandable.”
The BIR sent Pumaren again another set of notices but were “ignored by the respondents, as the afore-cited assessments remained unpaid.”
“The respondents’ obstinate failure and continued refusal to pay their long overdue deficiency taxes, despite repeated demands, constitute willful failure to pay the taxes due to the government,” the BIR said.
