Joy Belmonte finally speaks up vs haters after jumping ship to PDP-Laban

She transferred parties with public service still in mind, this politiko insists.

Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte raised some eyebrows with her surprise decision to transfer to President Rodrigo Duterte’s political party PDP-Laban on May 10, which comes after years of standing by the Liberal Party which her dad former Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte, Jr. sits as a ranking official.

The third-term vice mayor finally broke her silence and addressed the issue, saying that she changed allegiances only to make sure that she can continue serving the city.

“Sa mga bumatikos sa akin, kasama na ang ilan sa aking mga kaibigan, naunawaan ko kayo at sana bigyan ninyo ako ng pagkakataong patunayan na ang pagsanib ko sa PDP LABAN ay magbibigay sa akin ng higit na mga pagkakataong makapaglingkod ng mahusay at tapat sa aking mga kinasasakupan. Please reserve your judgment and condemnation for later,” Belmonte said via Facebook.

Instead, she also thanked those true friends who remained supportive of her politiko career despite shifting parties.

Belmonte transferred to Duterte’s party with Councilor Gian Sotto, and even took their oaths together that Wednesday.

Belmonte is due to run for another post in Quezon City by 2019, as she maxes out three terms as vice mayor. Where will PDP-Laban take her next? Abangan!
