LP hemorrhaging continues: Joy Belmonte, Gian Sotto meet Koko Pimentel to join PDP-Laban
The Liberal Party’s massive exodus continues after the daughter of Quezon City Rep. Sonny Belmonte, a former House Speaker and vice chair of the party, jumped to the political party of President Rodrigo Duterte, Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
Belmonte’s daughter, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, went to the office of Senate President and PDP-Laban Chair Koko Pimentel to swear her allegiance to Duterte’s party.
She was accompanied by another LP member, Quezon City Councilor Gian Sotto, son of Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto, who also jumped from the LP to PDP-Laban.
The event virtually confirmed their planned tandem to run as mayor and vice mayor, respectively, in Quezon City in 2019.
Belmonte and Sotto’s swearing in came just hours after five LP members, including Quezon City Representatives Alfred Vargas and Winnie Castelo, took their oath as PDP-Laban members at the office of Speaker Bebot Alvarez.
