Mas OK ito! MMDA to open provincial bus terminal in Pasay
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct on Friday (May 5)a soft opening of the new area for the Southwest Interim Provincial Terminal (SWIPT) at the HK Sun Plaza in Pasay City.
MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos said the new SWIPT area will be opened while the agency is still maintaining the current terminal at Coastal Mall. He said this would be the case until all provincial buses from Cavite and Batangas are transferred to HK Plaza terminal.
Orbos said that around 300 provincial buses with end points in Baclaran, Mall of Asia, Mandaluyong and Cubao will be initially transferred to the new SWIPT site.
He said that the agency will be coordinating with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to get an updated list of provincial buses with assigned end points that still have valid franchises.
City buses that has Baclaran as their assigned, franchised route are also allowed to pass by the HK Sun Plaza for passenger transfers, he added.
“The SWIPT at HK Sun Plaza is definitely better than the current one at the Coastal Mall as there will be no terminal fee to be charged to both provincial and city buses and ventilation and space are more adequate,” Orbos said.
Aside from the several benefits to both bus operators and passengers, the MMDA official said that the new SWIPT area further encourages inter-modality as spaces for UV Express units, jeepney and multicabs will be provided.
