Palpak na, matigas pa mukha: Koko Nograles says BURI gave no apology for maintenance fails

You’d think that Busan Universal Rail Inc. (BURI), the maintenance service provider of the glitch-prone Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 would at least offer an apology to the riding public if they get a chance to do so.

Think again.

PBA Party-List Rep. Jericho “Koko” Nograles said “sorry” wasn’t in BURI’s vocabulary last Wednesday (April 26) when it faced officials and stakeholders in a media forum wherein it supposedly explained why the train system had been malfunctioning so much lately.

“It is also lamentable that the BURI management did not even bother to apologize to the public and make a sincere assessment ‘on what is they can do and what they cannot do’ in as far the repair and maintenance of the MRT 3 is concerned,” read a statement from Nograles Friday, April 28.

“Hinanahanap ng publiko ang pagpapaliwanag nila kung bakit lagi na lang may sira ang ating MRT 3 at kung ano ang kanilang mga ginagawa para masolusyunan ito. Ang tanging narinig natin ay ang kanilang pagdadahilan at pagpapalusot sa kanilang mga kapalpakan,” the solon said.

” They should really tell us if they cannot fix the problems instead of giving us excuses by blaming the age of the train system. This is totally unacceptable,” Nograles added.
The 17-year-old MRT-3 services 500,000 passengers daily on average. BURI began performing maintenance chores of the train system in 2016.
