Erap to make Tondo’s ‘Happy Land’ even happier. Here’s how
Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada has teamed up with an evangelical humanitarian aid organization to put up toilets and provide clean water supply to thousands of impoverished residents of the so-called “Happy Land” in Tondo.
Estrada, in partnering with Samaritan’s Purse Philippines, said it has always been his administration’s priority to uplift the lives of the poor Manileños – including taking care of their most basic needs such as decent shelter and proper sanitation facilities.
“Life is hard for residents of Aroma village,” Estrada said during the project launch held at the city hall recently.
He was referring to Barangay 105, the so-called Happy Land which is a depressed community of 40,000 people in Tondo.
Estrada said the lack of sanitation facilities has been a decades-long problem of Aroma, causing
health problems among the residents, especially the children.
The Samaritan’s Purse Philippines will be putting up 28 communal toilets, 14 handwashing stations, and 10 water tap stands connected to Maynilad, at Happy Land.
Samaritan’s Purse is a US-based Christian aid organization that extends various assistance to poor and underprivileged people from across the globe, including victims of calamities and natural disasters.
