Quezon City Mayor Herbert ‘Bistek’ Bautista assured the family of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was mauled to death by a group of college students in a bar in Barangay Sacred Heart that the full force of the law is behind their quest for justice.

The mayor made the statement after meeting with the father of the victim, Abigail Gino Basas, at Quezon City Hall.

“Huwag nating pabayaan ang kaso. Let’s help the family get justice,” Mayor Bautista told QC Police District director Guillermo Eleazar whom he called as he met Agapito Basas in his office.

The mayor likewise made a call to the prosecutor’s office and inquired on the status of the cases filed against the suspected perpetrators led by a certain Mohammad Piti-Ilan.

Also included in the complaint for murder were suspects Cyril Angelo Rada, Earl Brian Grande, Jameel Haron Benito and Angelo Mark Morata.

The QCPD has designated a tracking team to go after the suspects.

During the meeting, the father of victim Abigail Gino Basas showed screen shots of social media posts and messages that were allegedly posted on or were sent from accounts owned by the suspects
and their parents. The suspects purportedly bragged that they’re “untouchables”.

“Ang lalakas po ng loob nila. Ang tatapang po, mayor. Maliit lang kami kaya sana matulungan naman kami. Kung matapang po talaga sila, ilabas nila ang mga anak nila at panagutan ang nangyari sa anak ko,” Agapito Basas told the mayor in their 15-minute meeting.

Basas, 28 was laid to rest at Himlayang Pilipino last Saturday or a week after he encountered the group inside the Perfect Spot Bar and Billiards in Dr. Lascano St., Barangay Sacred Heart.

Mayor Bautista has directed the QCPD to deploy additional policemen to patrol nightspot areas to prevent similar incidents from happening.
