Whoa! Mayor Lani increases burial assistance by 1,000 percent

The Taguig City government has raised its burial assistance to indigents tenfold, from the previous P2,000 to P20,000, Mayor Lani Cayetano said over the weekend.

“To keep up with the inevitable rise in inflation, the City last year adjusted the burial assistance to P20,000,” Cayetano said.

The burial assistance program is available to families of indigent persons who have been Taguig residents for at least five years prior to their death.

The P20,000 cash assistance is primarily spent for expenses of the wake, including funeral services.

The beneficiaries may use any excess for other burial-related costs.

Since its increase, thousands of poor Taguigeños have benefitted from the burial assistance.

The City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) administers the burial assistance program.

Myrna Gilbuena, a staff at the CSWDO, mentioned that aside from the cash assistance, Taguig City also offers to its poor residents non-monetary and logistical support such as free use of chairs and tables.

In line with this, World War II (WWII) veterans and their spouses are also beneficiaries of the burial assistance of the city government where they are entitled to P20,000 assistance, up from the previous P10,000. #
