Baka magsisi kayo! Erap calls on Pinoys to support Duterte amid impeachment raps
Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada on Monday (March 20) called on the Filipino nation to stand behind President Rodrigo Duterte and crush the impeachment complaint filed against the latter last week.
Estrada said the country is lucky to have a President like Duterte “who has that conviction, willing to risk his life,” especially in his fight against illegal drugs.
“Ito namang mga ito, impeachment-impeachment…We cannot move on, pulitika agad. Wala pang one year si President Duterte,” said Estrada, a former president who in 2000 was slapped with a impeachment complaint over alleged jueteng payoffs.
“Maraming parallelism nangyayari ngayon, e. What happened nung ako, they ganged up on me,” Estrada said as he recalled his own ordeal.
He was subjected to an impeachment trial at the Senate from December 7, 2000 to January 16, 2001. Erap vacated Malacañang before the conclusion of the trial.
Estrada’s trial kicked off after the House of Representatives, with 73 votes, voted to impeach him on November 13, 2000 for alleged bribery, corruption, betrayal of public trust and violation of the Constitution.
“Ngayon, ginagawa na naman nila kay President Duterte ‘yan. Baka magsisi na naman sila,” he pointed out, recalling the time the Church leaders and former President Cory Aquino publicly apologized to him for supporting moves to oust him.
Saying he does not want Duterte to suffer the same fate, Estrada asked the public to support the President.
“I’m asking people to support President Duterte. He has the good intention. Dapat suportahan natin si President Duterte para talagang maubos itong mga drugs. Itong drugs ang number one enemy natin. I support him all the way,” he said.#
