Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada has ordered the Manila Police District (MPD) to keep a close eye on the delegates of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2017 summit who will be in Manila this month for various meetings and tours.
The meetings form part of a series of discussions with several ASEAN officials in preparation for the actual summit of the heads of the 10 member-states of the regional grouping come November in Clark, Pampanga.
The ten ASEAN member- states are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
“This is a very important event because we are the host country. ASEAN leaders and heads of government will be here. We must give our best in providing them security and in maintaining peace and order,” said Estrada, a former president.
MPD director Chief Superintendent Joel Coronel said Estrada has also assured him of all necessary logistical support in securing the ASEAN delegates visiting Manila.
Manila Diamond Hotel in Ermita, he said, will be one of the hotels that will house a number of ASEAN delegates, both foreign and local.#
