Pwede! QC Councilor Lagman looks to provide scholarships for jailed parents’ kids

The Quezon City Council has passed a resolution urging the city government to provide scholarships for children whose parents are serving jail sentences.

Resolution No. 6912-2016 authored by Councilor Ivy Xenia-Lagman prods Mayor Herbert Bautista to make the city’s scholarship program accessible for such children considering that their parents are unable to provide them financial support for their education.

“This resolution is expected to provide the needed impetus to the government’s continuing effort to make education accessible to all,” Lagman said.

As provided under the city’s scholarship and development program, financial assistance through scholarships is being provided by the QC government to underprivileged but deserving students who want to pursue higher education.

As of August 2016, there are 3,060 scholars under Quezon City’s Scholarship and Youth Development Program (SYDP).#
