QC to build more drug testing laboratories

The Quezon City Council has passed an ordinance authorizing the construction of four drug testing laboratories in Quezon City.

The ordinance is principally authored by Councilor Gian Carlo Sotto.

As provided under Ordinance No. SP 2537, S2016 which was approved by Mayor Herbert Bautista, the drug testing laboratories will be put up at the Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH), Novaliches District Hospital (NDH), QC Health Department and the Quezon City Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (Tahanan).

The ordinance mandates the city government to allocate over P7 million for the construction and operationalization of these facilities beginning this year.

The QCGH will be provided P4,638,971.30; TAHANAN, with P2,895,784.00; and the Novaliches District Hospital, with P1,576,124.00.

To date, the city government’s campaign of promoting a drug-free workplace program in all city government offices and the barangays calls for the conduct of an authorized drug testing among city hall officials and employees and the barangays, as well, for the purposes of eliminating the hazards of drug abuse in the workplace.
